Since 1986, Prairie Land String Band
has been entertaining audiences across the Southwest with their
unique brand of traditional style stringband music. Dressed in
costumes from the late 1800s, the band presents a unique visual as
well as musical experience.
Prairie Land String Band not only
performs the traditional music of post-civil war era, but also
Cowboy, Blues, Celtic and American Folk music ranging from songs of
the sea to traditional murder ballads.
While dedicated to the preservation
of old-time, stringband and folk music, the members of Prairie Land
like to show their versatility by performing more modern
compositions as well.
Prairie Land String Band strives for
a family-oriented program with fun for every member of the audience.
Grandma and Grandpa may remember some of these songs from their
youth and the youngest members of the audience always enjoy the
antics of the band and the lively rhythms of the music.
Among the more unique instruments
demonstrated by the band are the bones and horse-jaw percussion
instruments featured in many of the band's numbers.
